Biography
 
 
Fredrik Marsh was born in Quantico, Virginia; lives and works in Columbus, Ohio. He attended The Ohio State University, earning his BFA in Photography in 1980 and MFA in Printmaking in 1984. He has been teaching photography at various colleges and universities since 1985. As Visiting Professor of Art during the summer of 2009, he taught Photography for the University of Georgia Studies Abroad in Cortona, Italy Program. Currently, he is teaching in the Art Department at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
 
Marsh’s work has been included in over 200 competitive and invitational exhibitions since 1978. He has given photography workshops and lectured on his work nationally and internationally, most recently in China, Germany, Italy, Poland and Slovakia. During his career, awards received include an individual artist fellowship from Arts Midwest/National Endowment for the Arts; individual artist fellowships and artist’s project grants from Ohio Arts Council, Greater Columbus Arts Council and Saxony Ministry for Science & Art, Dresden; and a 2002 GCAC/State of Saxony artist residency in Dresden, Germany. He was awarded a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship in Photography in 2008. Marsh was nominated for the 2009 Baum Award for Emerging American Photographers.

Marsh's work is included in a number of corporate, museum, private and university collections across the United States with recent acquisitions in Germany. Selections from the Dresden Project are included in Permanent Collections of the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts, John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Photography at Columbia College Chicago, and Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, among others.
 
In 2006, his photographs and the works of nine other artists from six countries were included in the Sixth Discoveries of the Meeting Place exhibition in conjunction with Houston FotoFest 2006 Eleventh International Biennial of Photography and Photo-related Art. Twelve of Marsh’s Dresden panoramas are also represented in the 2006 International Photography Survey DVD-ROM Photography Now: one hundred portfolios. Notable solo exhibitions in recent years include the 7. International FotoTage Mannheim/Ludwigshafen Festival held in Germany during 2005, the 2nd Lianzhou International Photography Festival 2006 held in Guangdong Province, the People's Republic of China, and in 2007 at the 9th International Photo Gathering in Aleppo, Syria and University of the Arts, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In cooperation with the Cultural Landscape Foundation, the International Museum of Photography at George Eastman House in 2007 commissioned Marsh and eleven other American photographers to create photographs forHeroes of Horticulture, an exhibition traveling the United States through 2010.

Transitions: The Dresden Project. Photographs by Fredrik Marsh, one-person exhibitions opened in 2009 at the Weston Art Gallery, Aronoff Center for the Arts, Cincinnati, Ohio in the United States and Technische Sammlungen Dresden - Museen der Stadt Dresden, Germany, most recently in Columbus, Ohio. The exhibition will travel to the Galerie der Stadt Salzburg, Museumspavillon, in Salzburg, Austria in 2011 with additional venues scheduled through 2012 in Europe and the United States.
